Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully. By reading, accessing, or contributing to WikiCyber (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), please review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

1. About WikiCyber

WikiCyber is a free educational project of Shore-Roger Enterprises, focused on cybersecurity education ("WikiCyber", "we", "us", or "our"). It is operated without any intention of making a profit, now or in the future. The Site is an encyclopedia-style reference of cybersecurity guides, tutorials, and articles written by our contributors ("Authors"), and it is provided free of charge.

2. Free content and license

2.1 Content license

Resources on WikiCyber are available for free and for public use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless a page or item states otherwise. In plain terms, you may copy, redistribute, and adapt the content for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that you:

  • give appropriate credit to WikiCyber and its Authors, provide a link to the license, and indicate if you made changes (a hyperlink or URL to the page you used, or to its history page, is enough to credit the Authors); and
  • share alike: if you remix, transform, or build upon the content, you must distribute your contributions under the same license (CC BY-SA 4.0).

This is a summary, not a substitute for the full license text, which governs if the two differ.

2.2 Contributions

By submitting content to WikiCyber, an Author agrees that:

  • they license their contribution to the public under CC BY-SA 4.0, and understand that this license is irrevocable;
  • the contribution is their own original work, or they have the right to license it under CC BY-SA 4.0, and it does not infringe anyone else's rights;
  • contributions and their edit history are public and permanently visible, and they may be edited, reorganized, or removed by WikiCyber administrators.

2.3 What the license does not cover

  • Third-party material that is marked with its own license or copyright notice remains under that license or notice.
  • The names "WikiCyber" and "Shore-Roger Enterprises," and any logos, are trademarks or trade names of their owners. The CC BY-SA 4.0 license does not grant any trademark rights.

3. Authors and accounts

  • Invitation only. Accounts are issued by invitation. Authors are vetted before they are invited and are expected to have a notable background in cybersecurity, whether by working as a cybersecurity professional or by a history of competing in capture-the-flag (CTF) events and cybersecurity camps.
  • Vetting is not a guarantee. Being vetted does not mean any Author's content is accurate, complete, current, or endorsed by WikiCyber. Content reflects the knowledge and opinions of the individual Authors.
  • Account security. Authors are responsible for keeping their credentials secure, for all activity under their account, and for not sharing their account with anyone else.
  • Review. New or changed content may be held in a draft or review queue, and may be edited, moved, or removed at any time and for any reason.

4. Educational use only; not expert help

WikiCyber is not a source of expert help. It is a reference work, similar in style to an encyclopedia, meant for general education. Nothing on the Site is professional, legal, security-consulting, or other individualized advice, and no professional relationship is created by using the Site.

Cybersecurity guidance is context-dependent, and techniques can change or break systems. Content may be incomplete, out of date, or incorrect. Practice in an isolated lab or virtual machine, make backups, and verify information with authoritative sources before applying it to any system you depend on. You use the content entirely at your own risk.

5. No affiliation

WikiCyber is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or representative of Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation, and we do not claim to be. The Site runs on MediaWiki, free software that is also used by many unrelated organizations, and that fact implies no affiliation. Likewise, WikiCyber is not affiliated with or endorsed by CyberPatriot, the Air & Space Forces Association, Cisco, Microsoft, or any other organization, product, or competition it may mention. All other names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

6. Acceptable use

Cybersecurity knowledge can be used to defend systems or to attack them. You may use WikiCyber only for lawful, ethical purposes. You may not use the Site, or anything you learn from it, to:

  • access, probe, attack, disrupt, or damage any computer system, network, account, or data without the explicit permission of its owner;
  • commit or help commit any crime or any other unlawful act, including fraud, identity theft, stalking, unauthorized surveillance, or data theft;
  • create, host, or spread malware or other harmful code for malicious use.

You also may not:

  • attack, overload, scrape abusively, or attempt to bypass the security or access controls of the Site;
  • post other people's private information, credentials, or confidential material;
  • post content that infringes anyone's intellectual property rights, or that is harassing, hateful, deceptive, or spam;
  • impersonate another person or misrepresent your qualifications or affiliation;
  • post answers, keys, or non-public materials from an ongoing competition where its rules prohibit sharing them.

If you find a security problem with the Site, please report it responsibly to the contact address in section 13 rather than exploiting it.

7. Enforcement

If we believe these Terms have been violated, we may, at our sole discretion and without notice, remove content, suspend or permanently revoke an account or access, cooperate with law enforcement and other authorities, and take any other action permitted by law. Using the Site for hacking without permission, to commit crimes, or for other unlawful purposes is not allowed and may result in legal action.

If you believe content on WikiCyber infringes your copyright, send a notice to the contact address in section 13 that identifies the work, identifies the page or content you believe infringes (with its URL), gives your contact information, and states that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized. We will review notices promptly and may remove content and revoke access for repeat infringers.

9. Links and third-party content

The Site may link to, or reproduce content from, third-party websites and services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, security, or practices. Following a link is at your own risk.

10. Privacy

Basic information such as usernames, email addresses (for accounts), and server logs is used to operate and secure the Site. Anything you contribute, including your username and edit history, is public. Please also see our Privacy policy and Disclaimers, which are part of these Terms.

11. Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WIKICYBER, SHORE-ROGER ENTERPRISES, AND THEIR OWNERS, AUTHORS, AND VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR SYSTEM AVAILABILITY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE THE SITE IS FREE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AND WHERE PERMITTED SHALL NOT EXCEED ZERO DOLLARS ($0.00). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and hold harmless WikiCyber, Shore-Roger Enterprises, and their owners, Authors, and volunteers from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your violation of any law or third-party right, or your unauthorized or unlawful use of the Site or its content.

14. Changes to these Terms

We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when they are posted on this page, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the revised Terms. Please check this page periodically; its history shows previous versions.

15. Governing law and general provisions

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States of America, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California for any dispute arising from them, except that we may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. If any part of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy policy and Disclaimers, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site. Sections that by their nature should continue after you stop using the Site (including the license grants in section 2, and sections 5, 7, 11, 12, and 15) survive.
